The Future of Healthcare in Greece
The impact of the changes in the healthcare sector is significant; however new actions are also required, which will be assessed according to established technical criteria and principles of transparency
Organized by Health Daily and BOUSSIAS Events, “The Future of Healthcare in Greece” Conference, one of the largest health policy conferences in the country, was concluded successfully, celebrating its 15th anniversary with the participation of 35 distinguished Greek and foreign speakers and more than 200 participants, including health professionals, researchers, academics, policy makers, industry representatives, Health insurance agencies representatives and patients.
The conference that took place on June 3rd, 2025 in Athens at the DIVANI CARAVEL Ηotel, under the theme “Advancing Technology, Policy and Care for a viable and Inclusive Healthcare System,” marked its 15th consecutive and successful edition and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its role as a premier conference platform in the coming years, shaping the future of Healthcare in Greece.
An elite lineup of institutional officials and representatives of health policy influential policymakers, healthcare leaders and visionary academics, such as the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, Alternate Minister of Health, Eirini Agapidaki, Marios Themistokleous, Deputy Minister of Health, as well as former Minister of Health, Athanasios Plevris, Dr. João Breda, Head, WHO Athens Quality of Care and Patient Safety Office, Athanassios Zamanis, Vice-President of the National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY), Olga Balaoura, Governor of the 1stHealthcare District of Attica, Panos Vardas, President of the European Society of Cardiology, and the President of the Hellenic Society of Internal Medicine, Nikolaos Tеntolouris, analyzed global trends in healthcare and their implications for Greece, through four important key sessions.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee and central moderator of the conference was Professor of Health Services Evaluation, Management and Policy, Department of Public Health Policy, University of West Attica, Nikos Maniadakis.
The conference was held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Health, the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Industry Union (PEF), PhRMA Innovation Forum (PIF), the Association of Medical and Biotechnological Product Enterprises (SEIV) and the Association of Representatives of Pharmaceutical Products & Specialties (SAFEE).
Sponsors were the companies: Affidea, EY, Medtronic, HealThink, IQVIA, MICHAILOPOULOS & ASSOCIATES, MSD and Takeda while f-anazitisi, Johnson & Johnson and KALTEQ were the supporters.

With the participation of 45 distinguished Greek and foreign speakers and more than 350 participants, including health professionals, researchers, academics, policy makers, industry representatives, Health insurance agencies representatives and patients, one of the largest health policy conferences in our country, the 14th conference on The Future of Healthcare in Greece, organized by Health Daily and BOUSSIAS EVENTS, was concluded successfully. The conference, under the special theme “Shaping a Healthy Tomorrow: The road to value – based Healthcare”, took place on May 30, 2024 in Athens at the DIVANI CARAVEL Ηotel.
This year’s conference focused its proceedings on a transformative journey, where the quality of care takes precedence over mere quantity and towards the adoption of a value-based healthcare approach and the ability of our healthcare system to deliver meaningful and sustainable value to individuals and society across the entire spectrum of the health sector: starting with hospitals, analyzing the parameters that make value crucial to pharmaceutical policy, in the procurement of medical technologies and finally in health insurance in order to shape a healthier tomorrow.
The conference was held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Health, The Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (HAIC), Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Industry Union (PEF), the University of West Attica, the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Health (ODIPY S.A,) PhRMA Innovation Forum (PIF), the Association of Health – Research & Biotechnology Industry (SEIV) and SEV -Hellenic Federation of Enterprises.

«Το ΕΣΥ είναι ήδη 40 ετών και πρέπει αλλάξει με τρία νέα χαρακτηριστικά: μικρότερα και πιο εξειδικευμένα τμήματα, εξατομικευμένες θεραπείες, και ασθενοκεντρική προσέγγιση». Με κεντρικό αυτό το συμπέρασμα από την ομιλία του Υφυπουργού Υγείας Μάριου Θεμιστοκλέους ολοκληρώθηκε στις 29 Σεπτεμβρίου ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα συνέδρια πολιτικής υγείας της χώρας μας, το Future of Healthcare in Greece, με κεντρικό θέμα: «Prescribing a Healthier Future», το οποίο διοργανώθηκε για 13η συνεχή χρονιά από τη BOUSSIAS Events με τη παρουσία περισσοτέρων από 180 συμμετεχόντων και 30 κορυφαίων ειδικών σε Ελλάδα και Ευρώπη.
Το συνέδριο φέτος, του οποίου κεντρικός συντονιστής ήταν ο Καθηγητής, Διευθυντής Εργαστηρίου Οικονομίας και Διοίκησης Υγείας, Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώς, Τμήμα Οικονομικών Επιστημών, Αθανάσιος Βοζίκης, εστίασε στις άμεσες λύσεις και προτάσεις που θα μας οδηγήσουν στην επόμενη μέρα και την επόμενη δεκαετία αλλά και στις αλλαγές που θα απαιτήσουν μετασχηματισμό σε κάθε τμήμα του υπάρχοντος συστήματος υγειονομικής περίθαλψης και τη ραγδαία επιρροή της τεχνολογικής και ψηφιακής ανάπτυξης με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στη χρήση και διάθεση των δεδομένων υγείας προκειμένου οι οποίες παρεμβάσεις να είναι μετρήσιμες.

«H πανδημία έφερε στο φως τις ανισότητες στην υγεία όχι μόνο στην Ελλάδα, αλλά και στην Ε.Ε. αναδεικνύοντας τα ανοικτά ζητήματα. Απαιτείται γοργός βηματισμός για μια κοινή ευρωπαϊκή πολιτική υγείας στην Ε.Ε., ένας σωστός προϋπολογισμός για την υγεία και ένας σχεδιασμός που να λαμβάνει υπόψιν του τη συνοχή και τη μείωση των ανισοτήτων. Με κεντρικό αυτό το συμπέρασμα από την εναρκτήρια ομιλία του Αντιπροέδρου του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου κου Δημήτριου Παπαδημούλη ολοκληρώθηκε ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα συνέδρια πολιτικής υγείας της χώρας μας, το «The Future of Healthcare in Greece», το οποίο διοργανώθηκε για 12η συνεχή χρονιά από το Health Daily και τη BOUSSIAS με τη διαδικτυακή παρουσία περισσοτέρων από 360 συμμετεχόντων και 35 κορυφαίων ειδικών σε Ελλάδα και Ευρώπη, οι οποίοι συζήτησαν αναγκαίες μεταρρυθμίσεις προκειμένου να δημιουργηθεί ένα ισχυρό, ανθεκτικό και χωρίς αποκλεισμούς σύστημα υγειονομικής περίθαλψης στη χώρα μας.
Την κυβέρνηση εκπροσώπησαν ο Υπουργός Οικονομικών, Χρήστος Σταϊκούρας, ο Γενικός Γραμματέας Συντονισμού της Κυβέρνησης, Θανάσης Κοντογεώργης, ο Γενικός Γραμματέας Υπηρεσιών Πρωτοβάθμιας Φροντίδας Υπουργείου Υγείας Μάριος Θεμιστοκλέους, η Γενική Γραμματέας Δημόσιας Υγείας, Ειρήνη Αγαπηδάκη, και ο σύμβουλος του Πρωθυπουργού για θέματα Υγείας, Βασίλης Κοντοζαμάνης. Σημαντική ήταν και η συμμετοχή του Π.Ο.Υ με την εκπροσώπηση της Dr. Maria Neira, επικεφαλής του τμήματος Environment Climate Change and Health και της Δήμητρας Παντέλη, Programme Manager, Lead on Innovation, European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, ενώ τις επενδύσεις στην υγεία και το πώς αυτές μπορούν να ενισχυθούν από τα ευρωπαϊκά εργαλεία που υπάρχουν μέχρι το 2027 μέσω του προγράμματος EU4Health παρουσίασε o Peter Paul Borg, Policy Officer, EU Commission – DG SANCO.
